Chelsea Chasing Barca's Dani Alves

Chelsea are planning a giant summer bid for Barcelona right-back Dani Alves in order to ease their defensive woes.

According to reports in the English newspaper, The Sunday Times, the Blues are planning to dig deep into owner Roman Abramovich's treasure chest in order to bring Alves over to Stamford Bridge.

The Barclays Premier League title contenders have struggled to find a settled player at right-back ever since Jose Bosingwa was ruled out with a long term injury.

Their troubles from set-pieces have been well-documented and Ancelotti's men have also been unable to impose themselves on the right flank against good opposition.

Alves has established himself as a vital cog in the Barcelona machinery and played a massive role in the club's watershed 2008/09 season in which they swept a record breaking six trophies.

The Brazilian's contract with the European and La Liga champions expires in 2012 and any talks about an extension are yet to held with president Joan Laporta.
